Environmental Certifications and Partnerships

Arbor Day Foundation
Arbor Day Foundation: The Arbor Day Foundation is a million member nonprofit conservation and education organization with the mission to inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees. We donate funds to plant a tree for each new account and loan closing.  To date we have donated enough money to plant over 7,200 trees in state and national parks and forests.

EPA Energy Star Certified Building: We achieved distinction as an Energy Star Certified Building. This year our score increased to 99 out of 100 points. Energy Star Certified Buildings use 35% less energy overall than non-certified counterparts. ECU measures and tracks building performance, spreads the word about energy efficiency, and supports the Energy Star Challenge.

Waste Wise
EPA WasteWise: We hold a partner status in this program. WasteWise is designed to increase efficiency, save money, and reduce our carbon footprint.

ECU has also achieved zero waste status under the EPA guidelines. We divert more than 90% of our waste from landfills, through recycling and composting efforts.

Green Masters Program

The Green Masters Program is the largest and most widely renowned sustainability recognition program in Wisconsin. This program helps companies benchmark and compare their environmental performance with their peers.  Through our many ongoing sustainability efforts, ECU has achieved Green Professional status in the Green Masters Program.

Travel Green
Travel Green Wisconsin: We are the only financial institution in the state of Wisconsin to be a Travel Green Wisconsin destination. The Travel Green Wisconsin certification program recognizes businesses and events that make up Wisconsin’s thriving tourism industry that have made a commitment to evaluate their operations, set goals, and take specific actions towards environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

Green Power
EPA Green Power Partnership: This partnership encourages the voluntary use of green power to reduce the risk of climate change. Partners benefit from the use of green power, while supporting the development of new, renewable energy in the United States. We currently produce more than 80% of the credit union's annual energy demand with our rooftop solar array.  The remaining balance of our power needs are purchased through the Energy for Tomorrow Green Energy program with WE Energies.

EPA Battle of the Buildings 2015 Winner
EPA 2015 Battle of the Buildings Winner: ECU was the 2015 winner of the Bank Branch category for water usage reduction.  We reduced our water consumption by more than 20% in 2015!

EPA 2016 National Battle of the Buildings Winner: We reduced our water consumption by more than any other participating financial institution during this nation-wide contest! Using the EPA Energy Star Portfolio Manager data management tool, competitors measures, tracked, and reported their energy and water consumption over a 90 day period.  The data then needed to be verified by an independent third party to be considered.

EPA Water Sense Promotional Partner: Through this partnership, ECU promotes the use of Water Sense labeled products to our members and the community. Water Sense labeled products use at least 20% less water than standard products in their category.

Pay it green
PayitGreen Seal of Approval: The PayItGreen Seal of Approval recognizes businesses and financial institutions that champion environmentally sustainable practices to remove paper from payments, bills and statements and motivate consumers and businesses to make electronic their first choice.
